Day two... First we tried to meet the Congressman Steve Austria but unfortunately we was out of his office working in a committee somewhere... so we decided to move onto grander things. Next stop, Capitol Conservatory. Very nice gardens, arboretums in the conservatory. Wonderful collection of trees and flowers from various parts of the world.
After our brief adventure as botanists we headed off to the National Museum of the American Indian. This viewing was rather brief (we only spent about an hour in each the conservatory and Indian museum) There are many interesting artifacts, works of art, as well as, volumes of historical clips and movies. The collection of arrow heads and tomahawks was rather amazing.
Stepping from archeologists to engineers we were off to the National Air and Space Museum. It became rather apparent that we were geeks at this point. We spent from about 4 hours roaming the exhibits. I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to learn about and photograph much of the latest technological explosions. Gliders, planes, rockets, missiles, satellites and much more. Amazing work that as progressed us so far and so fast as a people. The comparison exhibits displaying Russian and American equipment side-by-side shows how much this progression has joined us as one. As live becomes faster we have reduced that barrier of fear and replaced it with respect and interaction. Hopefully this friendship brought about by technology will help make this a better world.
For out last tour of the night we were thinking of going to the National Museum of American History (Kenneth E. Behring Center) but were detoured where we passed the triceratops skull in front of the National Museum of Natural History (I pointed out that as geeks we were required to look at dinosaurs.) This ended up being the last day of the trip. Feet were getting tried and were ended up spending more than the hour we planned. I admit, even with the heat and pain of walking for two solid days on hard floors I pressed on to explore as much of the museum as I could. And the others explored and didn't escape earlier either.
Biggest bummer about the museums so far as been lighting and crowds. Both of these are rather counter productive when it comes to taking photographs. Of course I could use this to my advantage from the point that less pictures equals a faster foot pace. Which in its self would allow for viewing of more museums and memorials.
Well two days left... so, let roll.
